Movie Time

I hope you don't mind if I stray off the Valentine's Day theme
that I've been throwing around here lately.

I'd love to talk movies.

My daughter & I have seen so many movies
within the last couple of months,
it's no wonder I haven't been blogging much.

And so it began with this:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The young cast was fantastic.
It was a great coming-of-age picture and
while it really resonated with my daughter,
I, too, enjoyed it; very much actually.
That Logan Lerman is a doll!

 Then we saw,

Breaking Dawn, Part II

We were happy to see the conclusion
of the Twilight Series at last.
We enjoyed it.
We always felt the books were
better than the movies, but
as Twihards, the movies
have always been fun.

  Next came,

Lincoln

I'm not one for historical type movies, but
this was excellent.
Daniel Day Lewis' performance was beyond words!

Then we moved on to,

Les Miserables

I can't begin to tell you the obsession this has created for me.
As a matter of fact,
I'm listening to the 10th Anniversary concert as I type this.
I've watched Les Mis flash mobs on You Tube and
I've sung the songs in my head for days at a time.
I need an intervention and fast!

Anyway,
Saddest.Movie.Ever.

We cried our eyes out, and loved it still.
Even though the singing was not stellar
(we didn't expect it would be from a Hollywood cast),
we think it was a fantastic movie.

Next up,

 The Hobbit

 Great movie!
Can't wait to see the two sequels!
I guess it might also be time to watch
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
because I'm hooked!

Then along came,

 Silver Linings Playbook

We absolutely loved this movie!
 It was fantastic!
I swear if I didn't think that Daniel Day Lewis
actually WAS Abraham Lincoln,
I believe Bradley Cooper would win the Oscar for his performance.
And I'm not just saying it because he's pure eye candy.
Jennifer Lawrence was awesome too...
and Robert DeNiro...and Jacki Weaver.

Our last movie was

Parental Guidance

I love Billy Crystal and Bette Midler.
They are so funny and they didn't disappoint.
It was a fun and light hearted movie.

Phew!
Now do you see why I've been sporadic with my blogging & visiting???

So tell me, have you see any good movies lately?

Sweet Valentine Vignette

Hello my friends!

♥♥Love is the air.♥♥

Are you getting ready for Valentine's Day?

Here's my coffee table all decked out for
Valentine's Day.

Do you remember these fleece hearts that I made last year?

This sweet cherub was a few dollars on clearance at
Hobby Lobby last year.  He was originally dark and didn't
go well with my decor.
He kindly asked me to bring him home & give him
a coat of  Annie Sloan's Old White paint.
Yes, he did.
He asked me right in the aisle at Hobby Lobby!
What else could I do?
I obliged him, of course!

I know you recognize this, right?
My dollar store craft.

I love adding just a few little touches of
Valentine's Day around the house.  Nothing too much.

Have a pleasant week!
I think the temps are finally going to get
out of the single digits this week...yippee!

Valentine's Day Mantel

I can remember the early days.

You bet.

The early days when all my Valentine's Day decor
fit into a flimsy cardboard box from the department store.
The kind of box used for a tie or scarf.

No lie.

It was always my husband's favorite box to take down
from the attic because it required no effort on his part.

No  lie.

Nowadays, my Valentine's Day decor doesn't come close to rivaling
my Christmas or Fall or Easter decor, but it has grown since blogging.

So, I thought a Valentine's Day mantel was in order.
I've never done one of these before, so here goes nothing.

As always, try to ignore the reflection in the mirror,
especially of that darn ceiling fan!

Do I even need to sing the praises of
"fun with PicMonkey?"

I pretty much gathered up all my Valentine's Day decor
and anything pink or red I could find in the house.

Did you notice my Dollar Tree craft above?
The one with the pockets made from paper doilies?
I had to change the frame to something a little more
substantial.  The other frame was just too small for this big mantel.

Although my husband and kids thought I was
over the top
making a Valentine's Day mantel,
I'm glad I didn't listen to them.

Ehh, what do they know anyway?

Valentine's Day Crafting (Round 2)

The lovelies,
and
are partying it up again!

This time it's a Valentine's Day Craft party
made from dollar store items.

I shared with you in my last post
that while creating my first craft idea,
I came up with second idea.
(My first idea can be found here.)

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

 As you may recall,
I purchased some items from The Dollar Tree.

Then, because I didn't have a plan in sight,
I started folding the paper doilies.

While I was folding,
I got hit with double inspiration!

Wouldn't these make cute little lacy pockets?

Hmmmmmm...

Back to the Dollar Tree for a picture frame,
then some scrapbook paper that I had on hand...

and there you go!

Cute & easy!
I guess I should add "inexpensive" as well.

Two fun and easy craft projects
and they didn't break the bank!

Which is always good because some of us
have unfortunate crafting experiences.

Just sayin'.

If you'd like to join the party or even
just take a look and see what the creative
geniuses who walk among us have created,

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Spreading some Valentine's crafting love to you!
See you soon!

Valentine's Day Crafting (with the dollar store)

When Debbie of Debbiedoos announced she was going to have a
Dollar Store Valentine's Day crafting party,
 (wow, that's a mouthful)
I knew that I needed to get my wheels turning.
I have been a wallflower at too many parties lately, and
I refuse to watch any longer!

Off to the Dollar Tree I went.
Mind you, without a plan in sight.
(why would I ever have a plan?)

I walked around the store for a while,
formulating a loose plan.
I ended up purchasing the following supplies:

 C'mon now.
You're dying to know what I'm going to do with that orange,
 aren't you?
heehee

Well, I got home and set to work.
Still not really knowing what I wanted to do,
I started folding the paper doilies,
just for the heck of it.

I grabbed some straight pins
and using that orange like a styrofoam ball,
I pinned all the doilies onto it
and ended up with this:

Pretty cute, huh?
 Much better than that whole
(I know I shouldn't ever bring that up again,
let alone add a link to it!)

I'm thinking this might make a pretty
centerpiece for a Valentine's Day
tablescape and you know how much I love
tablescapes!

 Believe it or not,
while I was folding all those doilies,
I actually came up with another
Valentine's Day craft idea.
I'll share that one with you soon.

Head on over to Debbiedoos
(I believe the party link will be up
Thursday morning.)

Enjoy the day, dear friends!

Blame it on January

I don't know what is going on with me.
I just can't seem to get myself into a blogging routine.

It seems as though the calendar turned to January, and I turned carefree.
I've lost my groove or something.

Anyone else feeling this way or is it just me?

Anyhoo, I thought I'd rattle off a quick post just to ease my way back into things.

Here is my dining room chalkboard, all Wintered up:

Funny but of all days to post this photo, this would not be the day.
It's anything but cold outside.
We hit a high of 49 degrees today.
Very unusual weather for January.
But not to worry, it'll be back to the 30s in a day or two.

Ok, my friends.

I've got to get ready for the Golden Globes now.
The inner fashionista in me refuses to miss the
red carpet pre-show!

Winter Mantel 2013

Hello friends!

I wanted to share my Winter Mantel with you today.

Like many of you, after the Christmas decorations come down,
I'm left scratching my head,
trying to figure out how I want things to look.

As many of you already know,
my mantel is always a challenge for me.

Here is what I came up with:

Everything I used I already had on hand,
except for the mercury glass hurricanes.
I picked them up at Michaels, this past weekend,
on clearance, for only $3.80 each!!

How do you like my snowman pillow?
Yes, I sewed it myself.
Not perfect (as I'm a beginner),
but I think he's sweet anyway!

I love this photo above.
It just screams winter to me.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my Winter Mantel today.

Wishing you a wonderful, toasty warm day!

Hello Winter! (Dining Room hutch)

Winter is definitely here.

That may not be the case where you live,
but I can assure you, it's alive & well right here.

It was -8° degrees when I woke up this morning.

We got snow too....alot of snow.

But you know what?

I actually don't mind.
(Yet anway.)

After the Christmas decor came down,
instead of just putting everything back the way it was,
(What fun is that?)
I added a little Winter to my dining room hutch
because by the looks of things,

Winter ain't going away any time soon!

I love how it turned out...white, cream,
silver/gray, gold, beige...very wintery.

I bought that cute "snow bird" at JC Penney.
I hardly ever shop there, but
was glad the day I found him.

This sweet bird ornament came from Kohl's.
He didn't scream "Christmas ornament" to me,
so I'm leaving him out all year round.

Wire cloche from Michaels.

Now I think it's time to snuggle up with a blanket & a hot cup of tea.

Thanks for stopping by!
